The Thrasher-Horne Conference Center, with over 6,000 square feet of rentable space, can be configured in a variety of ways to accommodate all kinds of special events. Meeting space at the Conference Center is available for half-days as well as full days at very reasonable rates, made even more affordable with optional non-profit eligible discounts. Whether you are planning a lecture for 400 or a brunch for 30, the Conference Center can provide the space you need for your next event!

“Thanks for helping make 2016 Celebrate Clay another great success!  Holding an event at the Thrasher-Horne Center is always easy and enjoyable.”

At the Thrasher-Horne Conference Center, you’ll find ample free parking and a kitchen designed for the staging of meals by catering staff. Tables and chairs with customized setup and break down are included with every rental. Each room is equipped with an independently controlled state-of-the-art sound system, with additional AV equipment available for rent.
The Thrasher-Horne Conference Center also boasts several features that are not available at other facilities. One of the things many people like to do when they attend a meeting away from the office is to take a break and get a breath of fresh air between sessions. The Thrasher-Horne Conference Center has grounds that are beautiful and well-maintained – perfect for a short walk. If a person prefers to stay inside between meetings, the Thrasher-Horne Center also has art galleries (open during Box Office Hours) where people can walk around indoors. Many people find that art stimulates their thinking.
Finally, the Conference Center has access to the Thrasher-Horne Center Cabaret Theater, complete with adjustable table-top seating. If your event is going to feature a comedian, hypnotist, live musicians, or other performer, the Cabaret would be perfect.
We look at our facility as a professional conference center with a friendly touch. Our customer service department will go the extra mile to help you plan your event and will also be available on the day of your event to help in any way needed. Many of Northeast Florida’s leading organizations have held their off-site meetings at the Thrasher-Horne Center.
The Four Seasons at the Thrasher-Horne Center
Events at the Thrasher-Horne Conference Center tend to vary based on the seasons of the year. In fact, the natural progression from Spring to Winter is mirrored in many of our client’s functions, providing a unique way to track the passage of time for our staff and our many guests.
Winter:
The cold months bring with them the holiday season, and with that comes Corporate and Private Holiday Parties (Garber Auto Mall, McDonald’s, Innovative Construction Group), Christmas Concerts (First Coast Christian School), and Career Fairs (Clay County Chamber of Commerce).
Spring:
Springtime is the perfect time for Junior and Senior Proms at the Thrasher-Horne (Keystone Heights Junior/Senior High School, Ed White High School NJROTC Military Ball), as well as numerous Nonprofit Banquets and Fundraisers (First Coast Women’s Services Banquet, Reinhold Celebrate Clay Awards,  MADD Law Enforcement Officer Recognition, JP Hall Scholarship Banquet, PACE Center Believing in Girls Luncheon).
Summer:
Summer traditionally signifies the end of one school year, followed closely by the beginning of another. This is the season of Graduations and Private Graduation Parties (Backpack University, Bishop John J Snyder High School, St Johns Country Day School, FL Youth Challenge), then Teacher Training Workshops for next year’s faculty. Summer Dance Recitals are also a hot ticket during the summer months, with the pitter patter of tiny ballet shoed feet echoing through our halls (Wehner’s School of the Arts, Academy of Dance, Dance Express).
Autumn:
The harvest season brings with it an assortment of fairs and expos. Many business organizations also present their annual Expos in the Fall, and the Thrasher-Horne Center has hosted several. They have included the Clay County Chamber Teacher Appreciation Expo, the Senior Lifestyle Expo, and the Clay County Chamber Business & Health Expo.

Why do so many different organizations plan so many different events at the Thrasher-Horne Center?

Organizations with personnel scattered in offices throughout Northeast Florida find that the Thrasher-Horne Center is a convenient central location for everyone to get together. Also, many companies, associations, and other organizations need a larger facility than they normally have access to. Many need a facility where different spaces can be configured for different purposes.

“Everything was perfect on our wedding day and we couldn’t have chosen a better location for our celebration.”

For example, at the Thrasher-Horne Center, one space can be set up for a wedding party to prepare for the ceremony, another space can be set up for the ceremony, another space can be set up for dining, and yet another space can be set up for dancing. In those circumstances, there’s no need to get in a car and drive anywhere. Guests simply walk down the hall from one part of the event to the next.
Members of our facility staff have worked on events of all kinds and they cater to the clients who use the Conference Center. Their experience and professionalism is a very important factor to meeting planners.

Meeting Space

Naturally, the location for an event should be convenient. For a day meeting, it should be away from the office, but not too far away. The Thrasher-Horne Center is located in Orange Park on College Drive which intersects with Blanding Blvd. That makes it very easy to get to. When people arrive, they will find ample free parking.

“Great place to hold our AP exams….
always excellent customer service!”

For any large off-site meeting or conference, the meeting space is one of the keys to success. The Thrasher-Horne Conference Center has over 6600 square feet of space. It can be configured for large assemblies, small breakout sessions, and everything in between.
We have state-of-the-art technology, a kitchen designed for the staging of meals by caterers, and bathrooms that are accessible and clean. Our maintenance team is top notch. They make sure that everything works the way it is supposed to work.

If you’re planning an event, be sure to check out The Conference Center at The Thrasher-Horne Center.

The 2015-2016 Season at Thrasher-Horne Center

Thanks to all of the friends and supporters of the Thrasher-Horne Center, the 2015-2016 season was one of our best ever. Sixty-four percent of tickets sold were to first time visitors of our venue. We look forward to seeing all of them again and to seeing many more new visitors in the upcoming season.
Last season, the Thrasher-Horne Center hosted concerts by some of the finest recording artists around, including Lyle Lovett, America, and Boz Scaggs. Our diverse schedule also featured the magic of Mike Super and Hal Holbrook’s iconic one-man show, Mark Twain Tonight. We played host to a weeklong residency by the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra with new conductor Courtney Lewis, and welcomed the National Circus and Acrobats of the People’s Republic of China with their world renowned production of Peking Dreams.
Here are a few of the other highlights of the season:
R5 Rocked!
Courtesy of Thrasher-Horne Center
R5 kicked off their summer U.S tour at the Thrasher-Horne Center nearly a year ago on July 7th. These young rockers have what it takes to make it to the top and stay there. They had a blast performing on our stage and it showed, in an unforgettable night that was both charismatic and electrifying. Our audience that evening can claim bragging rights to a powerhouse performance from a band skyrocketing to superstardom.
Bill Engvall had the audience in stitches!
Bill Engvall’s ability to connect with an audience by sharing the humor in everyday situations has made him one of the top comedians today. He attributes his 35-year career to his evolution from joke-teller to storyteller. His work spans small comedy clubs, nationally touring comedy shows, radio, television, films, albums, and books. He marked his debut performance at the Thrasher-Horne Center on October 2nd, 2015, bringing a side-splitting show to a nearly sold out crowd and setting Thrasher-Horne Center’s box office records in the process.
Michael McDonald crooned his heart out!
Courtesy of Thrasher-Horne Center
For decades, singer/songwriter Michael McDonald has had one of the most recognized voices in popular music. His sound is distinctively soulful, winning him five Grammys throughout his career. In 2009, McDonald released This Christmas, his third holiday album. On December 19th, he took to the Thrasher-Horne Center stage with hits and holiday favorites for a very memorable performance.
Melissa Etheridge got personal!

Melissa Etheridge has won an Academy Award and two Grammy Awards. On February 17th, she performed an intimate one-woman set that included music from her new album, This is M.E., as well as many of her greatest hits. Known for her iconic voice, profound lyrics, and riveting stage presence, Melissa shared personal stories about her remarkable journey through life and the inspiration behind some of her most beloved songs.
A full-fledged Broadway Season was delivered to Orange Park!
The Thrasher-Horne Center presented five fabulous Broadway shows as part of its inaugural Broadway Season. Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical kicked off the series in December. It was fun for the whole family, but particularly for the little ones. Ragtime was presented in January, with a gorgeous new staging and powerhouse performance from an incredible cast. Annie was up next at the Thrasher-Horne Center in February, charming children and adults alike with its classic tale of perseverance and optimism. In March, Saturday Night Fever came to town, and transported us back in time to the 70s with two nights filled with dancing in the aisles and singing along to the greatest hits of the era.

Capping off the season, the Thrasher-Horne Center hosted the Northeast Florida premiere of ONCE on May 1st, a musical which won eight Tony Awards® including Best Musical. Based on the popular 2007 movie, ONCE is the enchanting tale of a Dublin street musician who’s about to give up on his dream when a beautiful young woman takes a sudden interest in his music. The touring production of ONCE featured an impressive ensemble of actor/musicians who played their own instruments on stage. ONCE drew in audience members from the very first note and never let them go.
The 2016-2017 Broadway season is being planned now. It’s going to be another fantastic season! Dance Education and Performance at the Thrasher-Horne Center

David Parsons, Courtesy of Parsons Dance
A lot of dancing takes place on the main stage at the Thrasher-Horne Center. Some of our most popular events in the past year have revolved around dance. And in our upcoming season, the Thrasher-Horne Center is welcoming an exciting new partnership with Parsons Dance, a modern dance company based in New York City. The company was founded in 1985 by artistic director David Parsons and Tony Award-winning lighting designer Howell Binkley. Parsons Dance is well known for its high energy performances of contemporary American dance. The company performs residency/community outreach activities across the country and around the world every year. They have conducted extensive statewide residencies and outreach in Florida, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Kansas City among others.
The Thrasher-Horne Center is working with Parsons Dance on an outreach program which will include Student Matinee Performances (shortened performances with incorporated audience participation for students K-12 to attend during the school day), Lecture Demonstrations (featuring excerpts from Parsons’ Dance diverse repertory, such as The Envelope, Sleep Study, Class Act, Caught, and Nascimento, while explaining various aspects of production), and Masterclasses (taught by company artists and Artistic Director David Parsons).

Mr. Parsons received an MFA from Jacksonville University as the first Howard Gilman Fellow. He has created works through commissions from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, American Ballet Theatre, the American Dance Festival, New York City Ballet, and many other well-known organizations. His works have also been performed by Batsheva Dance Company of Israel, English National Ballet, Feld Ballets/NY, Paris Opera Ballet, and many others.  He choreographed and directed the dance elements for Times Square 2000, the 24-hour festivities in Times Square celebrating the turn of the Millennium. New York Magazine has called Mr. Parsons “one of modern dance’s great living dance-makers.”
The Parsons Dance residency at the Thrasher-Horne Center will continue to build on a foundation of rich and groundbreaking dance programming being offered to our Northeast Florida community. Last January, Thodos Dance Chicago presented a touring production of A Light in the Dark: The Story of Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan. Thodos Dance Chicago was founded in 1992 by the renowned Melissa Thodos. The company’s mission of inspiring expression through dance has established TDC as an original force in modern dance. Reaching young minds through dance education is vital to the TDC mission.  A Light in the Dark is an inspiring story ballet, which explores how a caring teacher helped guide a blind and deaf girl into a career as an internationally acclaimed writer and political activist. In February, the Moscow Festival Ballet presented The Sleeping Beauty. Marius Petipa is widely regarded as the most influential ballet master and choreographer in ballet history. The Sleeping Beauty was the crowning jewel of his career. It is considered by many to be the finest achievement of the classical ballet. The Moscow Festival Ballet was founded in 1989 by Sergei Radchenko, the legendary principal dancer of the Bolshoi Ballet. The performance of The Sleeping Beauty at the Thrasher-Horne Center was both enchanting and magical. Dance is also an integral element in Broadway productions, including those that have graced the main stage at the Thrasher-Horne Center. This past season, touring productions of four superb musicals (Ragtime, Annie, Saturday Night Fever, and Once) all featured unique and inspired dance elements.

Dance Education
“In the age of standardized testing, arts environments can provide the safe havens where mistakes are treated as discoveries and expression is celebrated. Higher order thinking is a natural part of the performance and students exit the stage smarter and more prepared for whatever life has in store for them. Dancers have an edge.” Heather Vaughan

Dance education and dance as a performing art provide several benefits to students. Dance plays a very important part in the education of thousands of young people throughout Northeast Florida. Both LaVilla School of the Arts and Douglas Anderson School of the Arts has excellent dance programs. St. Johns River State College, Florida State College in Jacksonville, and many private schools have dance programs as well. Research shows that students of dance are highly motivated, disciplined and focused in their everyday lives. They are also creative, imaginative, and have above average communication skills.
“Education in the art of dance develops the knowledge and skills required to create, perform, and understand movement as a means of artistic communication. Exposure to dance history and cultures, kinesiology and anatomy, and movement theories further enriches the dance educational experience.” National Dance Education Organization
